This thread got started because the previous, original "threads thread" died after I dont know how many pages. Is that one recoverable? Harmless hair flip towards @Lorewalker_Cho
@growingafamily, I think a black and white solid top. Just throw a pop of color in somewhere like heels, scarf, jewelry.
I did just see a pic of Hilary Swank get crap for wearing too bright a shirt (orange-red) with a black and white polka dot skirt. I didn't think it looked too terrible but her skirt was a large print and it was competing with the top.
Thanks! That's basically what I did the first time (black top, pink sandals) but that was more of a thrown-together, I just got this and want to wear it today outfit, not really a planned out one. I guess I did pretty well then
My plan is to wear it with red shoes (kind of a deeper autumny red, vintage style with a flower on them and 3" heels). So even though the dress isn't really vintagey I was gonna go with the theme and wear a string of pearls my mom gave me that her dad gave her years ago.
I dunno, I think it's a bit much? If it matters, the wedding is for a coworker of my H's. On the one hand, I feel like as a guest of a guest I should stay understated. On the other hand, most of his coworkers are female and this is a rare opportunity for him to show off what he's going home to at night so what do you think? Which one should I go with?
Haha I was thinking of just deferring to him but I guess with a more modern dress AND necklace the shoes would feel out of place, then I'd have to wear different shoes, and I want to wear the red ones because when the heck else am I going to wear them?

I also have this huge-ass leafy necklace I wore recently on a date with H, and he wants me to wear that for the wedding: http://www.target.com/p/women-s-fashion-statement-necklace-silver-18/-/A-15062138#prodSlot=_2_2

Completely useless comment, I know. So... I dunno... flip a coin?
Or, when in doubt, go with what the husband picks.
There is joy in this path, too.
