Closing the Forum on 12-27-16

Fuck. Just, fuck. Now I know what it feels like to be on the other side of a closing forum. God damn you Karma! Haven't I suffered enough! *shakes fist*

Looks like @Athol_Kay just Phase-six'ed the whole forum.  I can't believe just how awesome this place is/was. To find total strangers who'd not only take the time to truly help you, but smack you over the head when you're being a twat, was a revelation to me.

The most sincerest of thanks to each and everyone of you who took the time to comment on my posts and share your views/insights. I will truly never forget it. 

Whilst I've grown fond of almost everyone, my special well wishes go out to @Tennee @nubby @CartB4Horse @LordFlashheart and @Cowboy who were the people who's threads I'd starred when I first arrived here 1-year ago.

I'll set up a special IrishGypsyMAP (at) gmail account for anyone who likes to keep in touch. If not, I mean it from the bottom of my heart when I wish all of you the very best in your lives as you move forwards with your lives/MAPs. Have a fucking sensational Christmas and a MAP-tastic New Year/rest of your awesome-filled lives.

Now, if you don't mind, I need to take my mind off of this shitty news by wrestling a bear one-handed whilst chopping down a huge tree with the other.

I for one am very glad to have found this place when I did. I've been fortunate enough to spend just over two years here and was really looking forward to sharing my third. I'm sure if i had not found Athol's books and this forum, my marriage would be over. 

I took a lot of well deserved 2x4's to the head on this forum but they have produced results. When I see my wife look at me with love and not contempt those 2x4's were well worth it. 

I won't even try to name all those that have helped me through my journey. You know who you are. May the force be with you.

As others, sorry to see it go.  My marriage was dead and gone when I found this place, but it helped me fit some pieces together that lifted me out of a serious downward spiral.  

A very attractive and much younger colleague of mine resigned in August to return to Ukraine, after 13 years here, for family reasons.  She was widowed 5 years ago but had made a good life here for her and her kids, even buying a house.  

She let me know several months before she resigned what her intentions were.  We'd been friendly at work and she trusted me enough to do that (I was one of two people she told until the day she gave her notice).  

After she got home she emailed me, told me how much she missed me and asked me to come visit.  Essentially made me an offer I can't refuse.  I fly out Dec. 24 for 3 weeks.

I have no idea how this will play out in the long term, but I do know two things:

1. There is no way in hell this very beautiful and intelligent woman would have been this attracted to me if it wasn't for the MAP.

2.  I'm better prepared for this relationship than I have been for any relationship I've ever had.

Thank you so much for what you do, Athol. We haven't posted much lately, but things are going well, thanks to you and Jen. 

I remember you said you were looking at Dallas to move to once the kids are out of the house... If you do end up in the area, shoot us an email, we'd love to buy you a beer and maybe some BBQ.

A huge thanks to Athol and this forum for saving my marriage and changing my life in such a positive way.   While I respect Athol's right to make this decision I think it's a great shame that this amazing network of internet friends and all of this accumulated knowledge will be gone in such a short time.  Is there nothing that can be done to transfer the forum to other interested parties?

I understand the sentiment here, but the forum contains an immense amount of personal information. Email and IP addresses for starters. Plus real names and photos in PMs yada yada yada.

No one would ever trust me with personal information again.

It all needs to be purged by Vanilla.
