F*CK me Rx? HRT for women

So I read  the  below blog. Its interesting that after a hysterectomy and the Rx of HRT the wife gets sexy. Goes from nothing to horny.

We all know that HRT for low-T is a sexual  game changer for men  . What about women? Science tell us that HRT will maintain optimal sexual health in perimenopausal and menopausal women. Does real life confirm this?  What is your experience?

I am not going to go deep into my medical history just surfice to say that I have always been a horny toad.  :)     After some heartbreaking infertility issues and lots and lots of MD's, labs, more labs, more MD's and general misery   I was put on HRT. I swear the HRT has frozen aging and increased my libido even more. I take a lovely coctail of the  lowest doses available of estrogen/progesterone/testosterone.  For me it changed my life for the better in huge ways for a long time.

Lets not make this a post about HRT and cancer. Just about HRT and female libido. ( The cancer link has been disproved but the fear remains as well as "the cover your ass"  attitude of the pharmagology companies and many md's).

So, what say you?  Female HRT , is it  a "f*ck me" perscription?

I am only on estrogen and it makes me feel like a MILLION bucks (and cost close to that :) )  Luckily it did nothing to my libido since I was already high drive or overdrive.  I can tell when I am not on it.  I feel blah without it.  I waited 5 years before going on it and wished I would have started sooner.

So for me it is not a F*uck me RX

    Thanks for the input.

Glad it makes you feel good. fFor me too. I get the progesterone part of the cocktail from on online Canadain Pharmacy ( I am in the USA). The USA cost is $68 for 30 days including what the insurance contributes,  the Canadian source is $90 for 90 days and insurance wont pay out of the USA. Its called safedrugsonline.com   Works for me.

I'm on HRT- I was on DHEA, but had some side effects and have recently switched to Testosterone.

As the LD in our relationship- I had NO drive at all. None. I was also kind of checked out. I didn't much feel like even snuggling with him.

Now on the HRT I'm feeling great. My weight loss is continuing (it had stalled now matter what I did) and my libido is such that I'm initiating again!

HRT has made a huge difference in my libido and in my desire to simply be with my husband. Also- I just feel better- like I have my sparkle back.

I had to have a complete hysterectomy while in my 30's and have been on HRT ever since. I never had an issue with enjoying sex but I don't think I ever experienced true desire until after starting HRT. It took a couple of years to get dosages and delivery methods down to perfection, but when it finally kicked in...OMG! I thought about sex all day long and I couldn't wait for my H to get home in the evenings so I could pounce. At first I felt a bit like a nympho since it was all so new to me. I was like a kid in a candy store. It took awhile for me to believe that the feelings were real and they weren't going to just disappear. Over the years we have had to tweak dosages here and there and as the T level increases...so does the libido. It's a good thing. I really feel cheated for all the years I had no drive/desire.

I know exactly what you mean. It like HRT has made me be more me. I am so fortunately that my physician adheres to HRT for life unless of course there is a specific reason to get off. Did you ever wonder how different your relationship would have been if the LD issue was resolved?

Happy F88king to you now and always.

Perhaps not your case but Some hysterectomies are the outcome of conditions that could have been treated if medicine understood the role of hormones better. I know that I felt HD and slim and energetic and then things went to sh8t. But fortunately I found a physician that knew and in as early as 2 weeks of HRT I began to feel like me. As I said before. HRT is a lovely thing.

Women of course take much lower T HRT than men. Can you imagine just how much they think of sex? I have a lot of empathy for these captains on this forum fighting for every scrap of sex they can get. The Federal Government ought to put Testosterone is female deodorant or face creams. Keep American honey and smiling . Stay well...

I was HD at the beginning of my marriage but got my libido completely stalled after taking birth control pills for many years.  Been on full HRT for about 7 years, but the libido didn't really make a comeback until after the testosterone dosage and delivery type got perfected.  Then it was 0-60 in nothing flat.  When my libido is at it's highest, I start to have a lot of sympathy for what most guys must feel like, because it's tough to think about anything but sex.

Yep, I know what you mean. Sex pops into my head about a zillion times a day. Appetite for life is a wonderful thing and it spills over to other parts of life. THE MAP book talk about things coming in sets. Its true of this as well.
I started this thread because my once very  HD husband did a sexual crash and burn but is now  seriously on the way to recovery with T- therapy. I wondered how many MMSL men  could resolve   a large percentage of the spouses lack of sexual interest using female HRT alone.  Medical & MAPing is a powerful combination.

@Athol_Kay ; says medical first which of course makes sense in all things. The question is: Should female HRT checkup be a routine part of MAPing? It seems that men are quicker to accept the benefits of T-therapy for themselves than they are willing to stress HRT for their women.   Anyway HRT could save people a lot of misery.
Hopeandhardwork you stay horny and happy.

Have you had a hormone profile done?

The celebrity Suzanne Somers has a book on HRT. By no means is she an authority on this but the book is all interviews with HRT physicians. She also had breast cancer before HRT and is using hormones as part of the healing which is the opposite of what most of us have been told is correct. The book is on bio-identical hormones. In my research I deduced that bio is no different than lab. Any hormone produced outside the human body is lab created but that is just my opinion.  The book is on amazon and an interesting read.

I wish you luck on this. Let me (or us) know how it goes for you.

I haven't had a profile done yet, that's what I'm going in for in November... just waiting around for Day 21.

Before I met Dr. Wonderful no physician even thought to check for this on me .  I was a birth control for a long, long time which I think caused much of the problem. I will spare you the details but suffice to say that BC screwed up my system and contributed to permanently removing the possibility of motherhood from my life instead of the temporary thing that it was suppose to be, (sorry, I'm whining).

It seems that many physicians simply do not practice HRT and so they don't look for it. Is your check-up in a HRT friendly practice?

Yup, it's at an HRT specialist. Paying partially out of pocket for it.

I'm 56, wife is 58.  I have been using Androgel for about two years.  For a few years, sex seemed to be a chore for her.  Every time I would try to touch her, to stimulate arousal, it seemed I was hurting her.  Even with artificial lubrication, she often complained of discomfort.

Finally, I told her that she had to get over whatever embarrassment she might be feeling and talk to her doctor about it, for the sake of our marriage.  Her doctor prescribed some hormones, and they have had an amazing effect.  She now frequently begs me for sex.  It's a little intimidating, because, after all, I'm 56, and like the Toby Keith song, I'm not as good as I once was.  She now craves my fingers inside of her, and makes the most erotic sounds and ecstatic movements when I finger her.  Before, on days when she could orgasm, she normally had three.  Then it would be a week or more before she could achieve orgasm.  Now, she can orgasm every day.

A few weeks ago, she developed a very intense headache as she approached orgasm.  We waited a couple of days, and tried again: more headaches.  She had an MRI to check things out, and they found no problem.  They gave her one medicine that did not help, and made her nauseous.  They gave her something else to try, but we haven't yet.  I'm away on business, and she has been using a vibrator to take care of things while I'm gone, and has not had the headaches.  But she says those orgasms are very mild compared to times when I'm on the job.

Does any of this sound familiar to any of you?

@Morty headaches seem to be a common side effect when first starting HRT.  I've been on HRT for years and I still get them once in a while when the doctor changes my dose for any of the four hormones (DHEA, testosterone, estrogen, progesterone).

Sometimes the delivery mechanism of a particular hormone can also cause a faster than normal rise and than fall of the amount of hormone in the bloodstream, which seems to lead to headaches.  I've had this happen more with cream, gel, or mist delivery more than anything else.  Pills also can cause more of this if they are not specifically slow release type. The two I've not had much problem with headaches are patch delivery or pellets (both slowly release a continous small dose of hormone directly into the bloodstream without going through the liver first). Sex is a known trigger for headaches, primarily migraines.

My wife developed her first migraine during sex. She ended up hospitalized for a week, as she had stroke symptoms. She has continued to have issues with hemiplegic migraine even though there is no sex going on.

Have any of the women here gone on HRT before menopause and not due to hysterectomy? My wife has some symptoms that might indicate her hormones are off but she insists that HRT is only for peri or postmenopausal women and that it's silly to get tested because everything will change again when she hits menopause.  She's in her mid 30's.

Are there any stories here of premenopausal women who had abnormal levels, went on HRT, and felt better?
  • HopeAndHardWorkHopeAndHardWork USASilver Member Posts: 577
@FromMars  perimenopause can start up to 10 years before a women actually hits menopause (no more periods for a least a year).  Mid thirties is not at all unusual for perimenopause to start.  Yes, things will change when she is fully menopausal, but that will usually mean that the amount of hormones she receives from HRT will most likely need to be increased and further adjusted.  Why suffer for years before that when a small dose of whatever hormones are low will make her feel and function so much better?

I've been on HRT since my early thirties but it was due to a severe hormone imbalance caused by another disease.  I've had to occasionally adjust the dosages of each hormone as I've gotten closer and closer to true menopause (I'm now in my mid 40"s).

Can you ladies on HRT give me some feedback on this please?  I've been running my MAP and the ioi's from my W have been increasingly ALOT! My W is post menopausal.  I'm getting drive-by's, hand on thigh while driving, wanting me to hold her hand while walking (or arm through arm), moving over in the middle of the night to cuddle, back rubs...but her sex drive still seems very low to non-existent.  She does have a bad back (which she is supposed to call and get an appt. today), and she often has burning sensations upon penetration...so, is this a give it more time issue to adjust to the new me or could it be more an HRT/medical issue.  I guess it could be both?
