First baby step along a VERY long path - logging what I eat

Hi folks,

Haven't bought the MAP book yet- but while the leg ulcers still heal, talked over everything with my monther - she'd been suggesting I start small by logging what I eat...

So here goes...

I'm on 2500 Kcal a day.

Breakfast - 11/12/13
1 Wiltshire Farm Foods porridge - 270 Kcal
2 cans Starbucks Doubleshot coffee (Uk version uses milk instead of cream) - 280Kcal

Nudge me if i forget please...

For info - Wiltshire Farm Foods  - http://www.wiltshirefarmfoods.com - is the retail arm of the bods who do Meals on Wheels - so easier than supermarkets...

@RedPillWifey, too true! The only liquid calories with any health benefit are those from milk (lots of protein) and perhaps a very little bit of alcohol each day. I personally avoid the alcohol because I don't believe the huge amount of calories are worth the benefit gained. Sweet tea, sodas, coffee with creamer and flavorings - waste of calories I could be getting from something else that actually has a health benefit vs. something that just tastes good.
Now I did a job. Got nothing but trouble since I did it. Not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character. So let me make this abundantly clear: I do the job. And then I get paid. Go run your little world.

@alcockell I find that writing it down (or in my case entering it in myfitnesspal) is the absolute most effective way as long as you are diligent about it. Even if you know you are going to blow it during a day, don't cheat and neglect the entry.

Another thing that helped me was to link up runkeeper, and if I want some ice cream it will calculate how much biking I need to do to earn it.

All humans. This business of love. You have devoted much literature to it. Why do you build such a mystique around a simple biological function?

Useful thing about if I need the Starbucks taste/hit (as housebound while these ulcers heal), is that the Uk versions are made with semiskimmed milk...

But yes - it's mostly water with electrolyte flavour...

Oh - otherwise it's skimmed milk in my fridge..

    Thanks folks.

I was tossing up whether it was going to be mackerel fillets smashed up and bread.. or hit Hungryhouse and order in - was possibly down to the fact that you lot are cheering me on choose the former...

    360kcal of cheese added...

    That's 1024kcal.

    Total used - 2298kcal.

And to think - I was THAT close to blowing it my first day..
To those who know the film The Knowledge - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082624/ - run 1 done (or almost)

I was actually struggling with starting this in EXACTLY the way Mick Ford's character was struggling with starting...

Looking good!  Congrats on taking this important step and taking care of yourself!

It's amazing what a revelation it is just to record what you're eating. It makes you stop and think about whether or not you really NEED to eat whatever it is you're about to put into your mouth.

If you have a smartphone and you like looking at raw data, graphs, and other nerdy awesome things, MyFitnessPal and Lose It! are great apps. (Lose It! is a prettier app, but MFP has a much larger food database)

I'm using a Nokia N900 at the mo - but got an upgrade due me... but will get my Nexus 7 first and get used to Android before committing to a new 2-year contract..

And what's so nerdy about being awesome?  I saw your strikeout! ;)

Great job! I would seriously consider going wheat free. You eat less processed carbs, your blood sugar/insulin response will flatline and you will feel less hungry. Hence you eat less! The issue you will face at the moment eating wheat products is getting the blood sugar crash a couple of hours after eating making you feel hungry again. This is why so many diets fail, they don't stop you feeling hungry.

anyway great job, keep It up!
