  Thanks for your feedback.  Sounds like our situations are similar.  But, how exactly did you address this?  Did you just read the no more mr nice guy book and have some conversations on this website?  I'd love to know if there was a particular thing that you had to work on and how you mastered it.

    It took several years of questioning/analyzing/sorting out how my personality was affected by the lack of social guidance from my parents. I realized whether I was a high functioning Aspergers or not, I could change my present situation and personality. My whole life had been about doing what I thought other people were expecting from me. That had to change. It really became about figuring out what I wanted and how could be expressed better and without guilt. NMMNG definitely helped, along with several key conversations with my father.
